I thought for a long time about whether I should record this episode.

After all, this episode doesn’t have a direct connection to Taiwan.

But after thinking more carefully, I realized it’s actually very important.

Because American pop culture is also one of the important topics when

chatting with Taiwanese people.

Every time I go back to Taiwan and chat with my friends and family,

we almost always end up talking about American TV series, American movies,

the NBA, MLB, and music.

There’s one thing you definitely need to know:

Taiwanese people are very familiar with American pop culture.

In the past, the top destination for studying abroad was definitely the United States.

When I go back to Taiwan, my dad would try to talk about movies,

the NBA, Major League Baseball, and of course politics (Trump) with my husband.

(At first he felt strange because he's French, but then

he got used to it.)

Also, I know that many of my followers are American.

So knowing how to explain your own country’s culture to Taiwanese people

is also very important.

Right? Taiwanese people are very curious about this too.

Have you ever seen the movieCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon?

The director is Ang Lee. After he returned to Taiwan, he often mentioned interesting stories

about studying film in New York in many interviews.

So that also made me very curious about New York for a long time.

Another thing I didn’t mention in the episode is that I’m not used to tipping.

Tipping culture in the United States is also quite unique.

thank U New York!

As I mentioned in my podcast, my first Patreon member is actually a Taiwanese American living in NYC. It’s aslo the place where I had Honey Moon with my husband. So it really has a special place in my heart.

It must be hard to live in NYC, (the high living cost, finding an apartment, taking metro everyday…etc) It’s such a huge city. But it’s really has so much to offer for tourist. I’m so grateful for that.

I hope this episode helps!
